Company social network

Context

A client wanted a social network inside their company, to share news and improve engagement between staff. It grew into a full platform: one place to read the news, join groups, find documents, follow events and fill in forms.

The challenge

A company network has to serve very different needs at once: news from the company to everyone, conversation inside teams, a place for documents, and a way to organise events and collect answers. It also has to be easy to use from a phone.

My role

I created the whole application, from the design of the platform to the installable mobile app (PWA).

How I approached it

1. I designed the foundations of the platform, so that every feature (newsfeed, groups, events, files, forms) shares the same base and the platform can keep growing.
2. I built everything people see and delivered it as an installable web app (PWA), so the whole platform also works as a mobile app, without going through the app stores.
3. I added automated emails and notifications, so people hear about what matters without having to check the app.
4. I built analytics, so the company can see how the network is used and how engaged its staff are.
5. I brought the application up to date to improve security and make it easier to maintain.
6. I set up automated testing, so new features do not break existing ones.

What I built

• A solid, up-to-date foundation: kept current for security, with automated tests so new features do not break existing ones

What it brought

Delivered end to end for the client: a complete company platform that also installs as a mobile app (PWA), kept up to date and covered by automated tests. I built all of it, from the first architecture decision to the last feature.
